The first thing I tried was just scanning all the pages and laying them out on the page, so that you could see the entire book and all of the clip art product on the cover, albeit in tiny, tiny form. It worked pretty well with the birds (right), creating a kind of fusty wallpaper feel, but not so well with the calligraphy or fonts. Next, I tried using the clip art just as shapes to create collages and liked that approach better, ultimately refining and revising into the finished pieces.
